MADRID, FEBRUARY 4, 2013 – International Tourism Fair (FITUR)
‘Strategies to Recover and Boost Tourism in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)’ - Arab Spring countries have shown they can recover and that they can overcome ”current turbulence”; tourism in the Middle East is expected to grow by 5% this year. Representatives from Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia were among the delegates to the forum. Libya is ”an open country” whose tourism vocation predates the regime of ousted dictator Muammar Gaddafi, said Libyan Tourism Minister Ikram Bash Imam. ”The new Libya hopes to exploit its potential by betting on investment opportunities,” the minister said, adding that while ”security problems persist”, the government will ensure that ”Libya will be stable once more within a few months.”
